A grassroots initiative established on March 3, 2022, just a week after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Its primary mission is to support museum professionals in Ukraine who continue to work in institutions affected by destruction, shelling, looting, evacuation, or occupation.
Since its founding, the MCC has provided assistance to over 1,700 museum workers across Ukraine, facilitated the evacuation of staff, and improved the technical and material resources of museums. As of August 2023, the MCC has supported 190 museums in 18 regions of Ukraine.
The MCC has raised and distributed ₴5,557,073 (€139,652) in financial aid, supplied essential equipment to museums worth ₴317,208.90 (€8,068.79), and delivered 1,612 kilograms of humanitarian aid along with more than 117 parcels.
Beyond financial and material support, the MCC initiated the documentary project “Wounded Culture“, which aims to document crimes against Ukrainian culture committed by Russian invaders and to capture the experiences of museum workers during the war. The exhibition features two episodes: Okhtyrka and Trostianets.
The MCC exemplifies the strength of a professional community where colleagues support each other during the hardships of war. This initiative continues its critical work, helping to preserve Ukraine’s cultural heritage and supporting those who protect it.
