“De-Occupation” is a powerful documentary project by Ukraїner, highlighting stories of Ukrainian resistance during Russian occupation. Launched in April 2022, the project aims to document and share accounts of courage and resilience from Ukrainians living in liberated territories.

The Ukraїner team embarked on its first expedition to de-occupied regions to collect testimonies from soldiers, volunteers, law enforcement officers, partisans, and ordinary residents who dared to resist the occupiers despite life-threatening risks. Each report in the project not only archives events that Ukrainians have yet to fully process but also serves as a source of inspiration for continuing the fight for freedom.

The “De-Occupation” project marks a significant transformation for the Ukraїner platform. While it previously focused on portraying a peaceful, reforming Ukraine, it now shines a light on stories of fierce struggle, heroism, and unwavering commitment to freedom. Through these narratives, Ukrainians share their experience of brave resistance with the world, calling on the international community to support the fight for democratic values.

The scale and impact of the project are remarkable, with 27 episodes produced during 2022–2023.

“De-Occupation” has become a vital tool for documenting and disseminating the experiences of Ukrainian resistance, serving as an essential means of preserving historical memory and mobilizing international support.
